Ramesh is a fantastic musician. He lives in Cologne and works there and around the world on various musical projects. You can learn a lot from him; I've certainly benefited from him. His knowledge of Indian rhythms has influenced me over many years of collaboration. He brings entirely new flavors to the music of my bands Terminal A and TA2.
In this guest lesson, you'll learn the basic groupings of the Indian Konnakol language. You can then internalize them using two percussion breaks, which are also spoken.

What can you do with this on the guitar?
It's rare for a Western guitarist to rhythmically play groups of 5, 7, or 9. I'll show you these three possibilities with catchy examples on the guitar, and you can then effectively implement them into your solos.

Lesson 13Groups of 9 on the Guitar

Duration: min

Groups of 9 are notoriously difficult to count in Western music, which is why they almost never occur. While the Konnakol language doesn't make it child's play, it's definitely easier!

And this is what it sounds like over a 4/4 time signature.
